A Community And School Garden

Eric Alvarado, Philippines

I would use US$1000.00 on purchasing gardening tools and possibly building a greenhouse for the children and community of Pinalpal Elementary School in Sison, Pangasinan, Philippines. The Community of Pinalpal has one of the highest poverty incidence in the province and residents will have to trek down the mountains for an hour just to reach the nearest road. By having a garden situated within the school premises, not only does it provide a better food security for the community, it also teaches children to grow their own food. With the help of hobby farmers nationwide, I was able to collect seeds of high value crops and/or unique plants that will help with getting their interest to the already neglected agriculture of the country. Together with a partner NGO, TheStoryTellingProject, we will be able to provide this as a fun experience for the children.
